Employability & Support
So great job! You are nearing the end of having educated your students on their chosen animal related subjects. But, what now?
How do you ensure your students transition and move on into sustainable paid employment?
When and how will you cut off the apron strings?
How can you get them to start putting that well taught knowledge into the everyday practical real life experience within a workplace?
Maybe you are asking yourselves…
- Are they ready?
- Do they know how to conduct themselves in an interview?
- Do they know how to conduct themselves outside of the classroom in a workplace environment?
- Do they have adequate travel training?
- Do they know how to report absence or speak up to be heard by an employer?
- Do they know the importance of reliability and being depended upon?

Here at the ATP, we cover off all these common issues by taking the time and most importantly, managing expectations with employers to enable room for growth. We are committed to enabling our learners to be able to practise and refine these skills via an ATP placement.
ATP animal technicians will not be thrown in at the deep end and expected to pick up work behaviours from day 1. (Although many of them do a pretty good job at it!) The ATP team are here to nurture and support our learners during their transition period and will continue to do so throughout their 14 weeks within their employer partners sites. We call this dedicated ‘In Work Support’ which is administered daily through our ‘Culture of Care’ which is imprinted in everything we do on a daily basis. ATP combines both employability skills, industry specific knowledge and on the job training all rolled into one! What is employability and why is it important?
Employability is: “a set of achievements – skills, understandings and personal attributes – that makes jobseekers more likely to gain employment and be successful in their chosen occupations, which benefits themselves, the workforce, the community and the economy.”
We support key employability skills by heavily promoting and being advocates for change. We ask for this commitment within all our partnerships. The ATP has 3 keys areas that we focus on primarily such as:
- Working Well with Other People
- Being Reliable and Dependable
- A Willingness to Learn
As a result of the ATP’s pre-employment support, most of our learners showcase all these skills within their 2 weeks work placement and are offered paid employment. Many of our learners have gone on to secure paid contracts or sustainable permanent employment with one of our partners
We also offer additional further employability skills if required for the following
- Writing a CV or Résumé
- Applying for a Job
- Writing a Covering Letter
- Using LinkedIn Effectively
- Interview Skills
- Learning Outcomes
